Retail Operations Manager

Our Retail Operations Manager plays a critical role in ensuring operational excellence of our retail stores across North America. This role is responsible for overseeing store openings, managing real estate strategies, improving store processes, and driving efficiency – all while maintaining the high standards that define Fjällräven.

This is a full-time position based in Louisville, CO with a salary range of $70,000-$80,000 annually. This position reports to the Senior Manager of Retail Operations.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
As the Retail Operations Manager, you will oversee key operational, construction, and real estate initiatives for our North American Brand Stores. You will collaborate with various teams – including real estate, legal, store design, inventory, IT, and marketing – to ensure seamless store operations and strong financial performance.
Your role would include:
Operations Management
- Develop and maintain future store projection P&L statements, accounting for buildout costs and labor projections
- Monitor financial performance, providing weekly sales and performance reports and monthly/quarterly profitability analyses
- Create and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for store processes, labor management, and retail systems
- Partner with IT to resolve store technology challenges and support ERP rollout
- Oversee store sound systems, ensuring music selection and functionality align with brand standards
- Ensure operational efficiency and profitability by proactively identifying areas for improvement
Construction & Store Development
- Collaborate on new store openings, expansions, renovations, and closures, ensuring projects align with Fjällräven’s strategic goals
- Work with architects, designers, and contractors to secure competitive bids while maintaining brand standards
- Track project timelines, budgets, and deliverables, ensuring final costs remain within 5% of initial estimates
- Maintain project trackers and status reports, keeping internal teams informed on construction progress
- Utilize design software (SketchUp, AutoCAD, or similar) to conceptualize store layouts and branding elements
- Ensure store business licenses are up to date and regulatory requirements are met
Real Estate Strategy & Lease Management
- Develop a site selection framework to identify and evaluate potential new store locations
- Partner with real estate teams to negotiate new leases, renewals, and expansion opportunities
- Conduct site surveys and feasibility studies for potential buildouts
- Maintain an 18-month pipeline for new store locations while tracking lease expirations and renewal options
- Analyze lease terms to determine whether to extend, relocate, or close stores based on market conditions and financial performance
WHO YOU ARE
- Experienced: At least five years in retail operations, and/or at least one year in a retail managerial role
- Strategic thinker: Strong ability to manage budgets, analyze lease agreements, and plan store expansions
- Organized and detail-oriented: Skilled at project management, balancing multiple timelines and stakeholders
- Technology proficient: Familiar with retail IT systems, inventory processes, and storeforce platforms
- Adaptable and solution-oriented: Thrives in a fast-paced environment, solving problems with creativity and efficiency
- Travel-ready: Willing and able to travel across North America and occasionally to Europe, up to 40% of the time as needed
- Driver’s license required: Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a driving record check
